Orienteering Field Trip to Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge, GA

Interested in learning more about Orienteering?  Teens and those who have been doing it for years run through the woods with a map and a compass, searching for “points” like in a treasure hunt, racing to get to the finish line.
Not us. We will WALK through the woods with a map (no compass needed).
The points on an elementary course (2-3 k, or about 1.5 miles) are always adjacent to a foot path. It’s a lovely way to perhaps encounter a deer or a turkey on a pretty fall day. It’s more about STROLLING and chatting and being in nature than racing. But fun to watch the youngsters, too.

Location: Hard Labor Creek State Park in Rutledge.

Departing UUCG at 9 am, bring a sack lunch, return about 2:00 or 3:00pm.
Cost:  $10 per person + $3 per team. (Groups of 2 or 3 are better for first-timers and more fun) Free map reading tutorial at the meet.
Parking: $5 per vehicle
