Gathering of the Water on Saturday, Sept. 12th

THIS Saturday, 9/12 – 12:30-2:30 – Gathering of the Water!

Rev. Jan will be hosting a drive through collection in the parking lot at UUCG to collect water for our annual water ceremony on Saturday from 12:30-2:30.

Water connects us in profound ways, and this annual ritual is one of the ways in which we renew our sense of community as a congregation.

Please bring a small amount of water that represents something of your spiritual journey and lived experiences  this past year. If you want, you can write a note with information about what your water represents and leave it with me on Saturday, and there will also be time during the service for people to share.  You can still send me photos of water as well, and I will use those in the service.

Considerations for what the water you bring might represent for you:

LIFE EXPERIENCES:

EAST: New beginnings, birth, creation, inspiration

SOUTH: Emotions, trust, faith, passion, playfulness, vulnerability

WEST: Abundance, harvest, maturity, strength, transformation

NORTH: Clarity, wisdom, death, silence, peacefulness

SOURCES YOU’VE EXPLORED OR THAT HAVE EXPANDED YOUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH:

EAST: Direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces that create and uphold life.

SOUTH: Wisdom from the world’s religions that inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life.  Jewish and Christian teachings that call us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves.

WEST: Spiritual teachings of Earth-centered traditions which celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature.

NORTH: Words and deeds of prophetic women and men which challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love.  Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of the mind and spirit.

It will be lovely to see your faces in person — even if you have a mask on (I’ll have my mask on).

With joy and gratitude…
