Program: New Sanctuary Movement of Atlanta, May 5th

The Social justice Team presents a program about the New Sanctuary Movement of Atlanta and how we can collaborate to build power to work for immigration justice in Gwinnett. We will hear the moving stories of two high-achieving young immigrant women who are dedicated to serving the immigrant community whose fates and futures are determined by federal immigration policy.

Roxana Acosta, a TPS holder from El Salvador who has lived in the US for 32 years will share her story. She is a PhD candidate in nursing at Emory and her research is focused on helping improve working conditions of low income farm workers. Katherine Narvaez, a graduate of Mary Baldwin College, and DACA holder, who works at Center for Pan Asian Services and a winner of a full graduate fellowship to John Hopkins University will share her story. Katherine’s beloved step-father, a business owner who employed several people, was deported in 2018.

Lunch will be available for a $10 donation.
