July 13 Meeting: Pluralistic ignorance

Pluralistic ignorance is a phenomenon where people tend believe that a certain belief is the majority when in fact it is in the minority. It is a good description for many situations where the majority opinion dominates. Have you ever been in a class or group where you didn’t want to ask a “dumb” question? This is one example of pluralistic ignorance. It has implications in peer pressure or religious beliefs.

This podcast is a great overview and I recommend listening to it whether or not you can make the meeting. The meeting is on Zoom.
